LR Law has successfully acted for Blackpool Council on a review of a Premises Licence for a hotel whose guests plagued the area with noise and anti-social behaviour. The hotel openly targets stag and hen groups on its website.
The Malibu Hotel on Albert Road in Blackpool was closed for 7 weeks following the service of a Closure Notice under s.11A of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003. The Magistrates' Court upheld the complaints and extended the period of closure.
Nearby hotels, residents and Lancashire Police also supported a review application brought by Blackpool Council's Health and Safety Department. This was the second time the Premises Licence had been reviewed since Novermber 2011, following ongoing anti-social behaviour and noise relating to the hotel.
On 11th June 2012, Blackpool Council's Licensing Sub-Committee resolved to reduce hours for the sale of alcohol at the premises and to impose additional conditions on the Licence, including the requirement to employ a SIA registered door supervisor throughout the night. It is hoped that the hotel operator and the nearby hotel premises will be able to work together to eradicate the problems. Activities at the hotel will continue to be monitored by the Council.
